What's New at IAFF Local 21

Derby Headquarters will be at the dock area of The Veteran’s Rest Camp on the southwest side of the lake. There is a launch there that we'll plan to use but it is shallow.  If you have a bigger boat we recommend the public launch on the north end of the lake off Mayberry Trail, or the County Park just south of the Veteran's Rest Camp.

Check-in is at 8:00am and fishing starts at 9:00am.  Return to the docks for weigh-in is at 2:00pm.  Lunch (provided) will be at 2:30pm at the Veteran's Rest Camp pavilion.  Please BYOB.

This tournament is for the fun and fellowship of Police, Fire and EMS workers.  You may fish as hard as you like, or if you just want to soak a bobber and hang out with the kids and/or friends, all are welcome!

At least one person on each team must be an active or retired Police, Fire or EMS, full time OR volunteer.

Local 21 is proud to recognize the diversity in our union and celebrates our LGBTQ members.  We encourage everyone to continue to raise awareness and take positive steps towards an inclusive culture.  Local 21, hand in hand with the leadership of the Saint Paul Fire Department, is committed to protecting, promoting and affirming the civil and human rights of its members and the community we serve.

There is no place in public service for bias, discrimination or prejudice.

Have a safe and awesome PRIDE month!

The IAFF Elected Human Relations Committee (EHRC) was created by Convention resolution in 1988 to address issues relating to diversity and inclusion in our union and the fire service.  Since its inception, the EHRC has worked as the sounding board and voice of our union, providing insight and guidance to affiliates and fire departments on matters such as those going on today across the globe.

Our membership is a reflection of all races, religions and genders that make up the two nations they serve. As leaders, we stand with the peaceful protesters who remind us what built our great labor movement and improved the lives of all workers.

We stand against the discrimination and mistreatment of black people and all people of color, genders or identities. We stand against police brutality and against violence directed at the police. And, of course, we stand against any and all violence against our members as they do their work protecting their neighbors and communities.

Local 21 is proud to be an integral piece of this fabric that gives strength to our union.  Local 21 member and Deputy Chief, Roy Mokosso, serves in one of the 16 positions that make up the EHRC.  He was elected by the more than 320,000 members of the IAFF and is dedicated to representing the values of Local 21, our membership and the Saint Paul Fire Department.

Update to Military Service Credit Purchase Legislation

On May 27th Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed into law the 2020 Pension and Retirement Omnibus bill. This legislation was a priority of the MPFF.

One provision of the bill is a clarification allowing past and present members of the military to purchase service credits in the PERA Police & Fire Plan for less than the entire length of their military service, if the length of service is more than one year. Purchases must be made in minimum of six month increments.

In 2019 the MN Legislature passed the Military Service Credit Purchase but PERA interpreted the bill as requiring members to purchase their ENTIRE military time as opposed to a having the option to purchase only a PORTION of their time, up to 5 years.

A summary of the 2020 Pension Bill is attached and the Military Service Credit Purchase clarification is described in Article 6.

For more information regarding PERA's Military Service Credit Purchase please contact PERA.
